Jermu's UDS diary

Viribus Unitis Eiyuuteki ”Jermu”,
25.8.2006 - 17.12.2007
Male, long haired

This is Jermu’s diary after he started to have symptoms of UDS (VKH) at the age of 11 months (07/2007). Weight 27 kg. Jermu didn’t have much pigment faults previously, only few little changes in the nose and lips. Jermu had all kind of problems due his sick days, but he was happy until the end.

Janita Sinisalo, Jermu’s owner wrote the texts. Emilia Honkanen has edited it.
This diary is updated when something new happens.

Sunday 8.7.2007

In the evening Jermu started to keep his eyes closed. When walking outside he only wanted to sit and keep his eyes closed. The worry of the owners wasn’t big at this time because the same ”symptoms” was discovered at the beginning of the summer and then the soreness of the eyes passed in a few days without doing anything.

Monday 9.7.2007

Eyes stays closed nearly all the time. New problem: eyes started to discharge and Jermu started to scratch his eyes with paws. Walking outside is almost impossible.

Tuesday 10.7.2007

Previous symptoms continues more worse. Now discharge is green and eyes are turned to red.

Wednesday 11.7.2007

All symptoms continues and now iris is covered with blue sheet.

Thursday 12.7.2007

In the morning his pupills were turned outside looking like ”spaniel eyes”. Jermu can not focus his glance to anything. In the evening pain hits in to the eyes.

Friday 13.7.2007 missfortune day

Friday comes with bad news from a vet. Eyes have uveiitti. Treatment is cortisone injection in the neck and medicines.

- Terra-Poly-C 1 drop to both eyes 3-4 times/day, for 14 days
- Norocarp 2,5 tabl./day, till end of the cure
- Clavubactin 500 mg, 1 tabl. 2 times/day, till end of the cure

In the evening Jermu throws up for some time after getting his medicines. But still Jermu feels better and walking outside succeeds.

Saturday 14.7.2007

Jermu trows up again but now after few hours after his medicines. Day started clearly better. Eyes didn’t discharge and the redness was partly gone. Eyes blueness turned in to a blurryness. Eyes was still ”spaniel eyes”. Vision wasn’t ok, Jermu tumbles all the time.

Wednesday 18.7.2007

Jermu’s state is the same. We (breeder & owner + Jermu) visited an eye vet. Diagnoze; strong doupt of UDS (VKH). To be sure of UDS we would have to send Jermu’s eye to pathology and we didn’t want to do that now…

Medicines:

- Predison 5 mg
- Minims atropin (eye drops)

No more Terra-Poly-C and Norocarp!

Friday 20.7.2007

Minims atropin (drops) works instantly. Pupills are dilated like it was ment to. Pigment starts to disappear from the nose and lips.

Thursday 27.9.2007

Food is tasting excelent, but eyes are little red.
